The First Business Owners Union Conference

 

THE FIRST OIC BUSINESS OWNERS UNION CONFERENCE


The 1st OIC Business Owners Union Conference" will take place on the 20th of August 2010 at Hotel Hilton Jeddah. The main speakers will be H.E. Professor Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and H.E. Dr. Ahmad Mohammad Ali, President of the Islamic Development Bank.
The "1st Business Owners Union Conference" will focus on encouraging the large strategic commercial projects in the Islamic world, which will help increase the national income of the OIC countries and create plenty of new employment opportunities for the youth. The meeting will be attended by around 1000 businessmen from 27 countries and the Presidents of Federation of Chambers in OIC member countries.


The Ugandan Business community will be well represented in this conference with a delegation of several business owners here in Uganda led by the President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mrs. Olive Z Kigongo.
Uganda stands to benefit from this forum in the following ways,
•    Access of Uganda’s products to the Middle East markets.
•    Business match making and attraction of foreign direct investment as we unveil the opportunities in Uganda to the OIC countries.
•    The business delegates from Uganda attending this conference will get the opportunity of meeting the president and officials of the Islamic Development.


This is yet another opportunity for the Ugandan Business community to harness in the Islamic countries’ opportunities.

Trade Mission to Moscow for the Russia-Africa conference

The Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in conjunction with the Ugandan Embassy in Moscow, Russia and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry are organizing a Business Forum and Exhibition as part of the Russia-Africa inter parliamentarian Conference in Moscow from 15 to 16 June 2010.

Uganda Leveraging Trade Benefits in the EAC and IGAD Region

Uganda is a strategic central trade hub for the East African Community (EAC) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) trading blocs. For example, the country has managed to present itself as a link necessary to leverage trading benefits in the resurgent lucrative markets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda and the Southern Sudan. Sights are now set on increasing trade with Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eretria and Somalia. The Customs Union protocol came into force in 2005 and by 2007 the total intra –EAC trade had increased by 22% from USD 1342.6 million to USD 1,973.2 million.

The 2nd IGAD Business Forum at Mosa Courts Hotel

UNCCI on 2nd to 3rd August 2010 hosted the Second IBF conference to evaluate what has been done and also approve the action plan. The Chairperson of the IBF and President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) Mrs. Olive Z Kigongo gave opening remarks (speech) emphasizing on the importance of IBF in promoting trade within the region. She called for peace in the region in order to foster regional trade.

Call for Budget Proposals

UNCCI wishes to inform ALL its members including ALL the district Chambers of Commerce and Industry that consultations for the National Budget 2010/2011 have started.

UNCCI, in its capacity as Uganda’s oldest, largest and only nation-wide umbrella private sector organization exists mainly to enhance business opportunities for its membership. This mandate includes enhancing Public-Private Partnership especially in the national budget-making process.
