The Membership Department of the UNCCI took initiative to visit one of its members, New Frontiers Technology (NFT) Consult as one of its activities. NFT had expressed interest in partnering with the UNCCI on one of its new initiatives that involves establishing of a Career Development Centre to equip graduates and students with transferrable skills at Makerere University. In view of UNCCI’s superiority in mobilizing the business community for business opportunities abroad, NFT engaged the UNCCI to partner in this venture on a continuous basis.

As part of its mandate to advocate for the interests of the business community, the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) visited the newly established Namanve Roofings Ltd plant.
In its second phase of a three part project, Roofings Group is employing 2,000 people to supply steel to the country and the Eastern African region. The project is a 140 million dollar investment driving development within the surrounding Namanve area.

The Indian High Commission partnered with the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) to organize an Indian Catalogue Exhibition on the 2nd of February, 2012 at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

Kigali, Rwanda—A two-day workshop on the business implications of Regional Integration on East Africans was held at Umubano Hotel, in Kigali, Rwanda, recently.

The meeting was attended by delegates in the Private sector, Public sector, International Trade Centre (ITC), East African Business Council (EABC) and East African Community (EAC) Secretariat from Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Switzerland. The list of the participants is attached to this Report as Annex I.

The prevailing high commercial interest rate is adversely affecting the business community whom we represent, due to the high cost of credit servicing. This was a result of the Central Bank implementing a new monetary policy of targeting inflation using the Central Bank Rate (CBR) whose aim is to mop excess liquidity as well as control inflation.

UNCCI has been amassed with several complaints that have been logged from their members.

UMEME supplies the electricity that it receives from the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL). UETCL receives power from hydro power generator (Eskom), thermal power generators (Aggreko, Jacobsen & Electromax) and various mini-hydro power generators. When there is a reduction in the production of electricity, UMEME is unable to meet the demand and is therefore tasked with rationing it through load shedding.

19 September, Kira Road, KAMPALA – In light of the current national, regional and global economic challenges, the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) is being dared to do more in providing more solutions to its membership and the nation by implementing a re-structuring exercise offering remedial policy in response to the existing economic challenges. These will include: solutions to the current business and trade challenges; creating a strong advocacy platform for its membership and also making meaningful contributions to policy.

10 October, Munyonyo, KAMPALA - The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), in collaboration with the Government of Uganda and the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) in tandem with the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) Forum on Agro-Food Industries in OIC Member countries, held a three-day workshop on Agro-Processing and Food Security in Kampala, Uganda, from 10-12 October, 2011.
